Getting to Père-Lachaise Cemetery in Paris
There are two main Paris Metro stops with easy access to the Père-Lachaise Cemetery.
Preferably, take the Metro to Gambetta on the uphill side of the cemetery. From there, walk downhill. After exiting, use the Metro Philippe-Auguste at the other end of the cemetery to continue exploring Paris.

How Long to Spend at Père-Lachaise Cemetery in Paris
As a result of the size of the cemetery at over 106 acres plan on spending around two hours to walk through the park like setting. However, if there are numerous graves on your list then add additional time.
Even though phones have maps it is helpful to print a general map of the Père-Lachaise Cemetery and then, using the maps of various personalities linked above, highlight the ones to visit and a route. For instance, we tried doing pin drops on our phone and ended up lost as well as exhausted before seeing what was planned.
As a note, there are restrooms available.
Furthermore, opening hours change so check the current times before arriving.

Where to Eat Near Père-Lachaise Cemetery
Eating Before a Visit Père-Lachaise Cemetery Paris
Before cringing, keep in mind some travelers are on a tight budget. Given that preface, there is a McDonald’s near the Metro Gambetta exit. Of course, checking out the French version of this American classic is part of the fun of traveling.
Otherwise, cross the street to eat at a more classic French restaurant when first arriving. Among the dining options are Bistrot Pere and Le Ramus, Pilo’s. Other eating establishments include Pizza Clip and Kahwehgi Coffee House.
Indeed all of these options are within the one block walk from the Metro to the cemetery entrance.
Another option, YO’ Mac and Cheese is on the side of the park and a bit of a hike uphill from there to an entrance. Unfortunately, we missed lunch hours by three minutes and could not try it. Add a comment if you get a chance to eat there.

However, depending on timing of visiting, there are another multitude of dining options at the exit.
Keep in mind Paris restaurants are not open all day. In fact, most close after lunch and then reopen for dinner.
Unlike the parks and gardens of Paris, picnics are not allowed in the Père-Lachaise Cemetery.
Lastly, make reservations online prior to arriving if the plan is to dine in a restaurant. Otherwise, it may be Mickie D’s for lunch.

- Any type of sporting activity including jogging or games like treasure hunts are disallowed
- Lastly, animals and cycles (manual or motorized) cannot enter the Père-Lachaise Cemetery
